The city of Portland, OR is going to be the home of one of the newest members of the Great West League (GWL), a collegiate summer baseball league with teams in California and Oregon. The team will begin play in the summer of 2016. "We want to stand out from the crowd and keep Portland weird," said Rose City Baseball President and CEO Ken Wilson.
Those who follow summer collegiate league baseball or the Great West League know the team will be named the Portland Pickles. Those familiar may also know that the Pickles unveiled their official branding in the fall of 2015.
Prior to the organization's announcement, I created elements of a conceptual branding campaign for the Portland Pickles, including jersey design and the conception of their mascot named Dill.
The team's official branding shows a much different approach, but we did have one thing pretty similar. They chose to name their pickle bodied mascot Dillon. Good luck to the Portland Pickles in their inaugural season.
